Usher was trending on Twitter this week for an unexpected reason.

The musician reportedly settled a lawsuit involving a woman who claimed he did not disclose that he had herpes, and had unprotected sex with her.

He allegedly had to pay his former lover, who is a celebrity stylist, $1.1-million (over R14-million) in December 2012.

According to court documents published by Radar Online, the 'Confessions, Pt. II' singer allegedly contracted the sexually transmitted disease (STD) between 2009 and 2010.

The Daily Mail reports he contracted the infection around the time he was finalising his divorce with Tameka Foster, who accused him of cheating.

The plaintiff says when she questioned the 38-year-old about a "greenish discharge", he claimed it was "nothing" and it had cleared up.

She said in court papers that she was later diagnosed with herpes, and developed vaginal sores.

Usher allegedly paid around R35,000 for her medical bills between 2011 and 2012.

He wed his long term-girlfriend Grace Miguel in 2015. Neither Grace nor Tameka are believed to have the disease.

The plaintiff successfully sued Usher as California law makes it illegal for people to knowingly and recklessly transmit an STD.

Usher is yet to respond to the reports.
