US singer slams Mariah Carey's attempt to trademark 'Queen of Christmas'

"I'm the real 'Queen of Christmas'" - American singer Darlene Love is not impressed with Mariah Carey's trademark request.
A storm is brewing in the music industry after it came to light that Mariah Carey has filed a trademark for the title, 'Queen of Christmas'.
Mariah has been known by the title ever since releasing her 1994 classic, 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'.
But Grammy Award-winning artist, Darlene Love, says she was considered the 'Queen of Christmas' long before Mariah.
"Is it true that Mariah Carey trade marked “Queen of Christmas”? What does that mean that I can’t use that title? 🤔 David Letterman officially declared me the Queen of Christmas 29 years ago, a year before she released 'All I want For Christmas Is You' and at 81 years of age I’m NOT changing anything. I’ve been in the business for 52 years, have earned it and can still hit those notes! If Mariah has a problem call David or my lawyer!!" she wrote on Facebook.
Darlene, who is a Rock Hall of Fame inductee, received some hate over her post.
"I'm noticing all these negative comments from Mariah Carey's loyal camp - I'm not suprised that her fans don't know who I am. I'm from another generation! Maybe they would know this song that I recorded!" she wrote.
Another singer, Elizabeth Chan, has filed an objection to Mariah's trademark. The musician only sings Christmas songs and considers herself the 'Queen of Christmas' as well.
Mariah filed her trademark request in March 2021, but news about the move only started making headlines recently.
The 53-year-old's festive season tune has topped the US charts several times over the past two decades and is on just about everyone's Christmas playlist.
The song reached one-billion streams on Spotify in December last year.
