Somizi denies abusing estranged husband
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
Media personality Somizi Mhlongo has denied claims that he physically and emotionally abused his estranged husband, Mohale Motaung.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would one day have to defend my honor as a result of someone I have loved so deeply and so genuinely deliberately harming a reputation I’ve worked so hard to build,” Somizi wrote in a statement released on Friday.
Audio clips of what is believed to be an interview between Mohale and producers of Somizi’s reality TV show have been leaked.
It details alleged abuse, financial sabotage and an open relationship.
The couple showcased their white wedding in a limited TV series in 2020 after their traditional wedding a year earlier.
He acknowledges that their relationship, as many other, had its ups and downs. He vehemently denied that he was “physically or knowingly emotionally abusive” towards Mohale.
The Idols judge denied claims that he sabotaged Mohale’s efforts to become financially independent.
In turn, Somizi claims he petitioned his own channels to grow Mohale’s brand and earn money.
The South African celebrity asked for privacy on claims of infidelity, including claims he had invited third parties for sexual relations.
Somizi vowed that the divorce proceedings will be finalised fairly and reasonable.
It’s understood that the couple is married in community of property.
Mohale may have dug himself a hole after confirming that he only wants his clothes and car from the marriage.
“I am taking what was said on record by my estranged husband very seriously,” Somizi continued.
Mhlongo has since taken time off from Idols SA and Metro FM.
