Siya Kolisi helps women who fed his family when they were starving

"As a young boy some days we didn’t have food at home," Siya recalls about his tough upbringing.
Siya Kolisi is giving back to the community that once helped him when he was a little boy.
The Springbok captain recently visited the Eastern Cape area he grew up in to deliver food parcels during the coronavirus lockdown.
The visit brought back emotional memories about how his family was once so poor they could not put food on the table.
"As a young boy some days we didn’t have food at home. And I would go from house to house with a empty cup asking for maize meal, beans anything that would feed my family and I for the night," he wrote on Instagram.

The 28-year-old added that he was grateful that he could now help the very people who fed him when he was hungry.
"I was reminded of these stories from the same ladies that would fill my cup all those years ago, while delivering food that will fill their families for a month."

Siya and his wife Rachel Kolisi have been using the Kolisi Foundation to deliver much needed supplies and food to vulnerable communities.
The couple made several stops during their trip to the Eastern Cape this past weekend.
Rachel said her "heart is full" and they are looking forward to the exciting projects they have lined up.
"There are so many moments from this weekend that I will remember forever. But top of my list was seeing my Elizabeth, I grew up under her in Grahamstown, and haven’t seen her for 12 years. We’ll be bringing her to Cape Town after the Covid 19 days to meet the rest of my family," she wrote on Instagram.
Siya thanked his wife for all her support.
"Thank you for believing in me and challenging me to be better vah!"
