Serena Williams returning to tennis? ‘I’m ready to hit some balls again’
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
The Olympic gold medalist and 23-time grand slam winner is teasing a tennis comeback...
When Serena Williams retired as the people's tennis champion in 2022, she admitted she was torn about the decision.
Could that be the reason why she is now hinting at a possible return to the tennis court?
Nine months after welcoming her second child, the 42-year-old took to X (Twitter) this week to make an interesting statement.
"I’m ready to hit some balls again," she wrote. Her post got more than 42,000 likes.

That one sentence was all it took for whispers to start about the 'Queen of the Court' making a tennis comeback in 2024.
"Come on, Miss Williams, one more for 24, IN ‘24!" one of her X followers replied.
A second fan wrote: "We miss you, Queen. #RunItBack."
"Come back home, Serena. They have failed to occupy the spot you left. Two, three more grand slams," a third commented.

MORE ON EAST COAST RADIO:
Serena and her sister, Venus Williams, are considered two of the greatest female athletes in history. Their dominance on the tennis court will be talked about for years to come.
Venus continued to play tennis after Serena's retirement, but was forced to take a break in 2023 after suffering a knee injury at Wimbledon. Her sister Serena urged her not to retire.
"My little sister, Serena, told me I'm not allowed to quit, and of course, I would never quit. But it's the mandate. She said no, so I will be back on the court," she said in January this year.
Venus returned to the court in March, and it looks like Serena could be next.
Serena hasn't entirely left the world of tennis since her retirement. In July, she will host the 2024 ESPYS Awards.
The mother of two is also set to release an eight-part series called, 'In The Arena: Serena Williams'. It debuts on ESPN on July 10.
"I can’t wait for you to see what I have been working on!" she said.
