Selena Gomez wins 'Best Actress' at Cannes - 'I'm so excited'

Selena Gomez is celebrating a major achievement in her acting career.
The 31-year-old received the 'Best Actress' award for her new movie, 'Emilia Pérez', at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
She received the award over the weekend alongside the movie's other female leads - Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofia Gascón, and Adriana Paz.
'Emilia Pérez' received an 11-minute standing ovation after its screening at the festival. The moment brought Selena to tears.
"Thank you Cannes! I’m so honored to be a small part of something so special in Emilia Pérez -Jacques, thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me. @zoesaldana @karsiagascon @edgarramirez25 and every single person apart of this film absolutely blew me away. Love you guys," Selena wrote after the screening.

Selena is thrilled that her character was honoured by the Cannes jury. She shared a clip of herself receiving the good news on her Instagram Stories.
“Yay! I’m so excited!” she says in the clip when Zoe calls her.

Greta Gerwig, director of the blockbuster 'Barbie', was a jury member at this year's festival. She explained why all four female leads received the 'Best Actress' award.
"Everyone was shining, and they were all a unit.... To separate them felt like it undermined the magic of what they created together... Each of them is a standout, but together they’re transcendent," she said.
