Robert De Niro, 80, talks being a new dad: 'It’s wondrous'
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
The 'Goodfellas' actor got emotional while talking about his daughter Gia.
Robert De Niro welcomed his seventh child in 2023 and the 80-year-old says it has been a "wondrous" experience.
The 'Killers of the Flower Moon' star's partner, martial arts instructor Tiffany Chen, gave birth to their first child together in April.
They named their bundle of joy Gia. Robert was 79 at the time while Tiffany was 45. There were mixed reactions to news of the baby's birth, with some accusing the award-winning actor of being "irresponsible".
"That's so selfish. The child will likely grow up without a father soon or a father [with] limited ability to nurture his [child]," one X user said.
Speaking to AARP magazine, Robert says he hopes to be in his daughter's life for as long as possible.
"I want to be around for as long as I can to enjoy her," he said.
Robert got teary-eyed talking about how much his daughter means to him.
"I'm an 80-year-old dad and it's great. Everything that I’m consumed with or worried about just goes away when I look at her. It’s wondrous. When she gets older — who knows? But that very sweet way she has of looking at you, taking you in, thinking and watching and observing …" he said.

The 83-year-old and 29-year-old Sony executive, Noor Alfallah, welcomed a son named Roman in June.
The actor has two other adult children, twins Anton and Olivia.
Robert previously congratulated Al on welcoming a child in his 80s.
"Al Pacino just had a baby... and he is a few years older than me. God bless him. I am very happy for him," he told the hosts of the 'TODAY' show in 2023.
