Rihanna causes a stir with eyebrow-raising Vogue cover
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Are Vogue magazine and Rihanna trying to make thin eyebrows a thing?
Vogue magazine's September issue has people talking and not just because it bagged another A-list star for the cover.
Grammy Award-winner Rihanna looks a bit, uhm, different on the cover. The 'Umbrella' hitmaker sports razor-thin eyebrows that look like they were drawn on with a sharpie.
While Rihanna has been on the cover of over 18 Vogue issues, she is the first black woman to feature on the magazine's special September edition in its 102-year history.
But nobody cares about that, all they care about is Rihanna's weird eyebrows!

The shoot was styled by Edward Enninful, Editor-in-Chief at British Vogue, for the magazine's "Big Fashion Issue".
"As you know, September issues are important in the fashion world, our largest and most lavish of the year and a real statement about what the coming months will bring. With this one being my first as editor-in-chief, I was determined it would be something special," Edward said in his editor's letter.
He made it clear in the letter that the thin eyebrows were his idea while praising one of the photographers who worked on the shoot.
"Nick Knight – one of the original masters – has also been busy too, shooting, among other things, our cover story with me. He never gets fazed by anything you throw at him. I’ll say, 'Let’s do flowers in the hair', 'Let’s do thin eyebrows' – and he remains perfectly cool."
We are not sure what fashion statement Edward is trying to make with the cover, but in the words of one Instagram user, "issa mess".

South Africans joined scores of people in ridiculing the bizarre shoot.
One Twitter user said Riri stole the look from South African cashiers.
"That Rihanna Vogue cover is a joke. I can barely even tell its her. Plus WTF is up with the Shoprite teller eyebrows? Neh neh neh," one tweep wrote.
That's cold!
Dear South African child. Our Shoprite ladies started drawing their eyebrows years before Rihanna did, we will not let her and Vogue take this one away from us. pic.twitter.com/3AX4MHaUFV

Rihanna seems pleased with the "high fashion" issue. She took to Twitter to celebrate her big cover.
SEPTEMBER ISSUE!!! @britishvogue

I’m so honored to be on the cover of your first September issue with British Vogue @edward_enninful Thank you for considering me! pic.twitter.com/ur3UlWoIXf
We're not sure if these 90's brows will become a thing, but if you ever feel like reaching for the tweezer, just remember it takes years to grow back over-plucked eyebrows!
