Rapper Pitch Black Afro charged with his wife's murder

Thulani 'Pitch Black Afro' Ngcobo has been arrested in connection with his wife's murder. He appeared in a Johannesburg court on Thursday. 

The musician is facing charges of premeditated murder and defeating the ends of justice. 

Catherine Modusane was found dead on December 31. She was initially thought to have died of natural causes.

According to the Daily Sun, Pitch Black Afro and his wife were invited to a friend's flat in Bellevue, Johannesburg, on December 30.

A source told the publication that they were "drinking for most of the night" but left after a "small argument".

The couple allegedly then booked into a bed and breakfast for the night. But a barefoot Catherine returned to the flat "looking disturbed".

“When she got there, they drank again for a couple of hours while Pitch Black was sleeping. The wife was accompanied back to the BnB early that morning," the source told the Daily Sun. 

The source claimed a friend later called to say that Catherine was not breathing. 

"She looked like she was sleeping but was bruised all over. It was easy to see because she was light skinned. I told my friend they needed to call an ambulance and police." 

Catherine was first thought to have died of natural causes but a pathologist's report said she could have died from her injuries. 

Pitch Black Afro is due back in court next week for a bail application.
