Prince William's jaw-dropping annual salary revealed
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Being the heir to the British throne has many perks, including an eye-watering salary...
Prince William received a new title and estate when his father became king, which led to him receiving an increase in his annual salary.
During his first year as the Duke of Cornwall, the 42-year-old royal received $30-million (R552-million) from the Duchy of Cornwall estate.
According to People magazine, the figure is revealed in the Duchy's Integrated Annual Report for the 2023-2024 financial year.
The money is used to cover the expenses of William's family, which includes his wife, Catherine 'Kate' Middleton, Princess of Wales, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
While the Duchy of Cornwall is exempt from paying corporate tax and tax on capital gains, Prince William pays taxes on the income he receives after household expenses have been deducted, according to People.
The Duchy is a private estate reportedly worth more than $1-billion. It was established by King Edward III in 1337 to support Prince Edward, his son and heir.
"A charter ruled that each future Duke of Cornwall would be the eldest surviving son of the Monarch and heir to the throne. The current Duke is HRH The Prince of Wales. He is the 25th Duke in the estate's history. The revenue from his estate is used to fund the public, private and charitable activities of The Duke and his immediate family," the estate's official website states.
William's father, King Charles, was the Duke of Cornwall for 70 years before handing the title to him in 2022.

The estate, which extends across 23 counties in both England and Wales, consists of “arable and livestock farms, residential and commercial properties, as well as forests, rivers, quarries, and coastline”.
Several reports put Prince William's net worth at a whopping $100-million. William and his brother, Prince Harry, were also the main beneficiaries of their mother, Princess Diana's estate.
They also received several pieces from Diana's jewellery collection. Princess Catherine and the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, have been pictured wearing some of Diana's jewellery.
Prince Harry is also set to inherit millions from the late Queen Elizabeth's estate when he turns 40 in September. According to The Mirror, Harry will receive $8.5-million (£7-million) from the Queen's family trust fund.
