Pearl Thusi slams Helen Zille over colonialism remarks
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
"Fly away Helen Sparrow," says a fuming Pearl Thusi following Helen Zille's colonialism tweets.
Former DA leader Helen Zille is feeling the heat after suggesting that some aspects of colonialism were not bad at all.
"For those claiming legacy of colonialism was ONLY negative, think of our independent judiciary, transport infrastructure, piped water etc," Helen said on Twitter.
Celebrities have joined government, and opposition parties in slamming her comments.
One of those celebs in actress Pearl Thusi. The "Quantico" star took to Twitter to bash Helen.
"Helen tell your people to give our land back before you try remind us how lucky we are that our ancestors were killed for hospitals. Tsek," Pearl tweeted.
The 28-year-old did not stop there.
This woman... wow. And conveniently calls it colonialism. Did we ask for pipes??? Did we they have to die for transport & f'ing pipes?!? https://t.co/OuUAVE8nlK

Pearl also compared Helen to Penny Sparrow, a KZN woman who described black Durban beach goers as monkeys.
"This old hag forgets who hands builds these hospitals & who actually benefits. HELEN SPARROW!!!!"
Helen has apologised for her remarks, stressing that she was not trying to justify colonialism.
Her spokesperson says she was simply trying to highlight how people in Singapore have managed to "overcome the past to build a successful economy".
I apologise unreservedly for a tweet that may have come across as a defence of colonialism. It was not.

But Pearl is not buying it.
"Because African heritage was savage and improper- yet our land is good enough. GO TO SINGAPORE THEN," she wrote on Twitter.
Pearl had some parting words for the political leader.
Fly away Helen Sparrow. https://t.co/y05ayqnx5s

Meanwhile, the DA says Helen will face disciplinary action for her colonialism tweets. But the damage has already been done.
And I proper almost fell for her lame xhosa stunts... I'm so mad.

Pearl also retweeted a tweet that tried to explain what Helen really meant.
I think this is what she meant @PearlThusi

The tweets that got Helen in trouble...
Much to learn from Singapore, colonised for as long as SA, and under brutal occupation in WW2. Can we apply the lessons in our democracy?
