Oscars: Tom Cruise fans react to 'best stunt' category news
Updated | By Entertainment Reporter
Will the "King of Action" finally win a golden statuette after the addition of a new Oscar category?

Oscar officials have announced plans to add 'Best Stunt Design' to its coveted awards ceremony, and Tom Cruise fans think this is his time to shine.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will add the new category to the 100th Academy Awards for films taking place in 2028.
Films released in 2027 will be considered.
“Since the early days of cinema, stunt design has been an integral part of filmmaking. We are proud to honour the innovative work of these technical and creative artists, and we congratulate them for their commitment and dedication in reaching this momentous occasion," Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said.
The Academy says over 100 stunt professionals are members of its production and technology branch.
Unlike some action stars, Cruise performs many of his daring stunts, particularly in the 'Mission: Impossible' and 'Top Gun' franchises.
Some of his daredevil stunts include driving a motorbike off a Norwegian mountain and flying a helicopter during a dramatic chase scene.
He also literally hung out of the side of a plane while it took off.
And don't get us started on his appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony. The 62-year-old abseiled from the roof of Stade de France à la Ethan Hunt.
They don't call him the "King of Stunts" for nothing!
Stunts have always been part of the magic of movies. Now, they’re part of the Oscars.

Social media users are convinced the new Oscars category will finally get Cruise the recognition he deserves.
"Waiting two years after Mission Impossible ending is sick work… Give Tom Cruise the Oscar IMMEDIATELY," one X user commented on a post about the announcement.
Another user added, "Tom Cruise deserves a backlog of Oscars."
"It’s amazing that the Oscars are finally recognizing stunts but it’s a damn shame they’re starting to do it in 2027 & not 26," a third person said.
"We’re about to watch Tom Cruise hang out of a plane hundreds of feet in the sky at 63 years old and THAT deserves to be recognized asap."
A fourth X user added: "Finally Tom Cruise will win Oscar."

The latest 'Mission: Impossible' trailer shows Cruise doing yet another jaw-dropping stunt.
The trailer for 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning' was released earlier this week. It shows Cruise dangling from the side of a plane.
Based on the movie's title, this is the eighth and possibly the final instalment of the franchise, which means the actor will miss out on a 'Best Stunt Design' Oscar.
However, knowing Cruise, this isn't the end of his action-packed films.
We might even see him walking in space for his next big movie stunt!
'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning' debuts in cinemas in May 2025.
