Not pretty, can’t act - 'Euphoria' star slams producer’s 'shameful' remarks

Hollywood producer Carol Baum is facing the wrath of social media after making some eyebrow-raising remarks about actress Sydney Sweeney.
Carol, who has produced films such as 'Father of the Bride' and 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', made harsh comments about Sydney during an onstage appearance at the Jacob Burns Center in New York.
The 81-year-old told the audience she doesn't understand why everybody loves Sydney.
"I don't get Sydney Sweeney. I was watching on the plane Sydney Sweeney's movie because I wanted to watch it," the Daily Mail quoted her as telling New York Times film critic Janet Maslin onstage.
Carol continued: "I wanted to know who she is and why everybody's talking about her. I watched this unwatchable movie - sorry to people who love this movie - [this] romantic comedy where they hate each other."
The movie she appears to be talking about is the 2023 romantic comedy, 'Anyone But You'. Sydney starred in the rom-com alongside Glen Powell. The film grossed $218.8-million at the box office.
Carol, who is reportedly a professor at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, told the audience she asked her class to explain the hype around the 26-year-old actress.
"'I said to my class, 'Explain this girl to me. She's not pretty, she can't act. Why is she so hot?'''

A rep for Sydney did not take too kindly to Carol's shocking remarks.
"How sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman. If that’s what she’s learned in her decades in the industry and feels is appropriate to teach to her students, that’s shameful. To unjustly disparage a fellow female producer speaks volumes about Ms. Baum’s character." the rep said in a statement, according to several reports.
Sydney's fans have slammed Carol, with some calling her a "bitter old lady".
"Sydney Sweeney had nominations for two Emmys and a SAG award under her belt by age 24. In 30+ years as a producer, Carol Baum’s only major award is a 1993 Razzie for Worst Picture. What a bitter old hag. Keep killing it, Sydney," one X user wrote.
Sydney received two Emmy nods in 2022. She was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for 'Euphoria'.
Sydney played Cassie Howard in the show, which also starred Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Barbie Ferreira, and the late Angus Cloud.
Sydney also received a nomination in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie category for her role as Olivia Mossbacher in 'The White Lotus'.
"Thank you so much to the @televisionacad for my emmy nominations! It’s an honor to know that both Olivia and Cassie have connected with so many. I’m so proud of both these shows and grateful to everybody that’s been apart of them," she wrote on Instagram.
Carol might think she can't act, but the Television Academy clearly believes she can!
