Nomzamo Mbatha goes global
Updated | By Entertainment Reporter
From the township of Kwa-Mashu in Durban to the world, TV personality Nomzamo Mbatha is living her best life by flying the South African flag high.
Nomzamo Mbatha flies out of the country today to shoot two international magazine covers in London. She is also set to attend commitments with Puma International as their local ambassador.
“I was invited by Puma International, we would actually be viewing a documentary for the ‘Do You’ campaign and I got two magazine cover photoshoots. People will find out about that soon,” said Nomzamo.
Nomzamo has become a regular on the international stage, having recently returned home from hosting the BET Awards International and Essence Festival New Orleans. She also attended the Audi Summit in Barcelona, Spain.
Based on the positive impact the Essence Festival New Orleans has had on the TV personality, Nomzamo wants other young people to experience and be a part of it.
On Wednesday, she made a pledge to provide 20 buses to transport young people to the Durban Essence Festival, which is set to take place from September 28 to October 1.
She surprised everyone when she made the pledge during the launch of the festival.
“The pledge was unplanned, I know my team is surprised as well. I am like that when it comes to giving, I am very radical. I feel it’s important for me to help youth to be part of this festival having experienced it and seen how this platform is important to the development of young people. There’s so much motivation at Essence festival. Our forefathers had a fight for freedom and what do we have? I am all about youth development, we have to ensure we carry this country to the glory it deserves,” said Nomzamo.
The bubbly personality made her debut in the entertainment industry in 2012 when she landed the role of Thandeka on Mzansi Magic’s telanovela, ‘Isibaya’.
Last week she was surprised when she was informed she had won the award for Best Actress at the Simon Sabela Mabhunu Awards in Durban. She had not even been made aware of her nomination.
“I didn’t even know I was nominated. I only found out when Bomb production sent an email congratulating nominees. At that time it was too late for me to come down to Durban for the awards. I was nominated with industry giants, I did not think I would win,” she said.
She said her hard work is now paying off and she would not be where she is today if she did not have the best managers locally and internationally.
“It’s the hand of God and hard work. A lot of people don’t know that you are seeing Nomzamo now with the international successful, but there’s been so much work that has been ploughed in and there’s so much hardship that I went through growing up. I am grateful to my team Brand360 (local publicist) and Cristelle (international publicist), they are incredible. They work day in and day out, we are all in two time zones because Cristelle is based in Los Angeles. When she sends an email at 2am in the morning, we should be up and respond to it. So it’s a team effort, I have great women on my side who make sure I get international recognition,” Nomzamo concluded.
