Miss SA under fire for wearing gloves while volunteering
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Twitter users are not happy with Miss SA Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters' decision to wear gloves at a children's home.
Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters visited a children's home in Soweto recently to do some volunteer work, but her good deed has been overshadowed by a pair of medical gloves.
The beauty queen was pictured wearing the gloves while helping out at the soup kitchen and feeding children.
Some Twitter users accused her of trying to avoid contact with the children.

There's no amount of reason that can justify her eatin with gloves on while feedin the kids https://t.co/oiaAb7Es8z

But Miss SA has denied that she did not want to touch the children, and took to Twitter to explain her decision to wear gloves. "All the volunteers on site wore gloves today, because we honestly thought it is the right thing to do while working with food…. It was purely to be as hygienic as possible,” Demi-Leigh said in a video.Dear Miss SA do you remember when Miss SA finalists went to an animal shelter 2 feed animals? You didn't need gloves pic.twitter.com/ieftsbSq0n

To everyone asking about the gloves, I truly hope that you'll hear my heart and understand that it came from a place of wanting to do good. pic.twitter.com/Pl5amM2gEM

I'm sure Miss SA had been busy in the kitchen with gloves and was asked to come for pics. Lack of oversight 😞
