Mark Zuckerberg vs Elon Musk: Tech giants planning cage fight?
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Two of the world's richest men had an interesting exchange on Twitter that ended with a cage fight being put on the table.
South African-born billionaire Elon Musk says he is up for a cage fight if Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is down for one.
Elon, who acquired Twitter for $44-billion in 2022, made the remarks after a user shared a post about a new feature that Meta Platforms reportedly has planned.
Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is allegedly working on a standalone app called Threads that will rival Twitter.
"META, the same company that copied Snapchat, TikTok, StumbleUpon, Foursquare, BeReal and Clubhouse, began coding 'Project 92’ three months after Elon acquired Twitter. Rumors have been circulating about the app's public name being 'Threads’," the June 21 post read.
Whispers about the app were first leaked two weeks ago. The Verge reported at the time that Meta staff were shown screenshots of what Instagram’s 'Threads' app will look like.
Meta has reportedly approached stars such as Oprah Winfrey about joining the app.
Elon is clearly not feeling Mark's latest move.
"I’m sure Earth can’t wait to be exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options. At least it will be “sane”. Was worried there for a moment," he wrote on Twitter.

At least it will be “sane”. Was worried there for a moment 😅.
One Twitter user told Elon that he better be careful because Mark knows martial arts. The 39-year-old competed in his first jiu-jitsu tournament in May and "won some medals" for his team.
But Elon is not fazed about Mark's martial arts moves. "I’m up for a cage match if he is lol," he tweeted.
One tweep warned him that he "better start training".

Mark then stepped into the chat. He shared a screenshot of Elon's Twitter exchange on his Instagram Stories with a caption that indicated he too was down for a cage fight.
"Send Me Location," he wrote.

But it looks like Mark is not the only one who knows martial arts. Elon revealed in an interview with Joe Rogan's podcast that he knows jiu-jitsu.
"I did martial arts when I was a kid. I did taekwondo, I did karate, Kyokushin karate and judo and did Brazilian Jiu Jitsu briefly," he told the American UFC colour commentator in an old interview.
It's unclear if Elon still practises his martial arts moves, but he is going to need them if he takes part in a cage fight with Mark.
Despite Elon seemingly joking about the fight, according to The Verge, it could potentially turn into the real deal.
"The story speaks for itself,” a spokesperson for Meta told the publication about Mark's post.
A Twitter user also showed Elon a screenshot of Mark's Instagram Story, to which he responded: "If this is for real, I will do it."
Nothing like two billionaires punching the living daylights out of each other. For charity of course!
