"His music lives on in us," says Lupita.
Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong'o paid tribute to South African music legend, Hugh Masekela, on the fifth anniversary of his death.
The jazz icon died on 23 January 2018 at the age of 78. He passed away peacefully at his Johannesburg home "after a protracted and courageous battle with prostate cancer".
Lupita Nyong'o is currently dating the 'Grazing In The Grass' hitmaker's son Selema 'Sal' Masekela. It's unclear when Lupita and Selema started dating, but she was lucky enough to meet the musician before he died.
"Remembering this great man today, #HughMasekela. I am so glad our paths crossed and that I got to experience his magic in real life. His music lives on in us. And his light shines on in his son @selema. (And I am so grateful to bathe in it.)," the 39-year-old wrote on Instagram.

Selema also paid tribute to his father on Monday.
"Somehow today makes five years since you’ve left the building. Your music is playing loudly today across the world. Your infinite contributions to the planet reverberate still. You are celebrated. Your love is felt more than ever. You are still here, always will be. I miss you so damn much," he wrote on Instagram.
Lupita and Selema - who many will remember from his days as a host on E!'s 'The Daily 10' - made their romance Instagram official on December 23 last year.
"We just click," the actress captioned a video of them changing into different outfits.

The couple reportedly bought a $4-million (R69-million) home in Los Angeles in December. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the mansion was custom-built in 2014.
The four-bedroom home has ocean, hillside, and canyon views. Their new home also has a fireplace, gourmet kitchen, a two-person jet steam shower, and a parking space for up to 20 cars.
