The Kumars to glow on SA screens
Updated | By Staff Writer
A new series of the award-winning comedy/talk show The Kumars airs exclusively on Glow TV on Monday 7:30 pm (DStv channel 167 and Openview HD channel 108).
For years the offbeat fictional British-Indian family charmed audiences by hosting a wide array of celebrities on their very own home-based talk show in The Kumars at No 42. Renamed The Kumars, the show was filmed last year and has never before been screened in South Africa.
The years between seasons have seen the eccentric family weather a number of changes.
In this new season, The Kumars are now living in a flat behind a store that Sanjeev’s father, Ashwin (Vincent Ebrahim) runs.
It is, however, thanks to Ashwin securing a sponsorship deal that the family’s talk show can be revived.
The loveable, but laughable, talk-show host Sanjeev (played by Sanjeev Kumar) has had a fair deal to come to terms with. He finds himself divorced after just two years of marriage. Sanjeev’s mother is in India caring for ill relatives, but his nosy and sassy grandmother Ummi (Meera Syal) is still very much a part of the show. Once again, it doesn’t take much for her to continually upstage Sanjeev in front of their celebrity guests.
New to The Kumars is the family’s meddling landlady, Hawney (Harvey Virdi), a self-proclaimed “actress, hand model and landlady.”
