'Keeping up with the Kandasamys' earns R4-million at the box office
Local movie "Keeping up with the Kandasamys" is a box office hit!
Less than two weeks after its release, locally produced film "Keeping up with the Kandasamys" has earned millions at cinemas across South Africa.
The comedy, which was released on March 3, was sold out during its opening weekend, and earned R1.6-million from 26 cinemas.
New figures show that the movie is continuing its impressive showing at the box office.
It has now passed the R4-million mark, thanks to an audience attendance of 76 114.
"From cast, crew, film partners & everyone involved - thank you to our loyal fans for going to #SupportLocal," a post on the movie's Facebook page reads.
The Durban film, which was mostly shot in Chatsworth, is creating a buzz across the country, and has been labelled a must-see by movie buffs.
It tells the story of two women from rival families, the Kandasamys and the Naidoos, who have to work together to break-up their children's romance.
Director Jayan Moodley is pleased with the support the movie has received from the public.
"The support has been so overwhelmingly beautiful but the one feeling that can’t escape us is love‚ from so many people who have seen the film. That’s just precious," she told Business Day.
