Five years after Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes won a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award, his daughter Kairo Forbes now has a bright orange blimp trophy of her own.
The nine-year-old was named 'Favourite African Kidfluencer'. She competed against Dream Catchers Academy, Biko's Manna, DJ Wysei, and Boluwatife Balogun.
AKA's hit single, 'Congratulate', played while Kairo walked on stage to accept the award. The song's lyrics were fitting for the occasion: "All the dreams and fantasies that come together /I’ll be shining like a diamond, that’s forever /Now congratulate me."
Kairo dedicated the award to her late father. AKA was gunned down outside a restaurant in Durban in February 2023.
"I hope that I inspire other kids to have dreams and that they have family that will support their dreams. Thank you, God for all your blessings. This one’s for you Daddy!" she said.
AKA also dedicated his award to Kairo when he won in 2019.
"It gives me great pride to accept this @nickelodeon KIDS CHOICE AWARD on behalf of my daughter @kairo.forbes and all of the MEGACY. Thank You so much for all the votes ... I cannot stress how important it is to have the young ones still rocking with me as their #1 after 10 + years in the game," the rapper wrote on Instagram.

Kairo shared a behind-the-scenes video of the moment she won her award. Her mother, DJ Zinhle, could be heard saying, "Go, baby!"
A proud Zinhle took to the comments section of Kairo's video to share a sweet message.
"Seeing you that happy gave me such relief… Your little heart has been through a lot. I pray for more happiness in your life. Congratulations baby," she wrote.

AKA's family also congratulated Kairo on her win. The rapper's brother, Steffan Forbes, posted a picture of Kairo holding her award.
He captioned the image with three gold trophy emojis.

AKA's mother, Lynn Forbes, shared a picture of Kairo holding her award just like her father did a few years before her.
The Forbes family no doubt miss AKA, but they are keeping his legacy alive by supporting his daughter's dreams.
AKA's father, Tony Forbes, recently opened up about how much he misses him.
"Don’t worry boy, you and I will sing 🎶 together like we talked…I promise. It’s Friday again, and I miss you more than ever, it hurts so much, I wonder what you are doing now, who you are with, did you remember to wish Ma and Pa happy birthday?"
