How to take the perfect Big Walk selfie

Here’s our guide to taking the perfect selfie during the Big Walk.

Walking and taking selfies is just as hazardous as using your phone while driving.

During the Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk this weekend, there will be lots of selfie taking.

Some folks will even be using the “Healthy Selfie” app to track their fitness journey.

But whether you are taking selfies for social media or for, um, health reasons, there is nothing great about falling over one of the 30,000 people participating - or looking like a hot mess in your snaps.

Here’s our guide to taking the perfect selfie during the Big Walk.

Follow the light

The perfect selfie is all about lighting. It can instantly give your pictures a natural looking glow. But be warned, good lighting does not hide anything, and can actually shine the spotlight on problem areas like extra flab or pimples.

A filter a day, keeps the ugly away

If you can’t find the perfect lighting, find the perfect filter. Instagram and other photo apps can help give your selfie the perfection boost it needs.

Say no to the duckface

Nothing will make you look more ridiculous while sweating up a storm than a duckface selfie. Seriously, just don’t!

Sweat is perfectly okay

The only time you should be proud of sweating like a pig is while taking party is a physical activity. It lets people know you are burning serious calories. Adding a few numbers to your Discovery Vitality points total is also a bonus!

Think before you click

It is easy to get caught up in all the excitement of the Big Walk, but don’t be the person that just starts clicking away and taking random pics of, well, nothing. Take a good look at your environment to spot the perfect background for your selfie. Think about all the retweets and double tapping, people! Don’t forget to also watch where you are going. The last thing you want to do is to step on someone’s toes, bump into a pole, or trip and fall in front of thousands of people – who will no doubt pull out their phones to capture the moment for social media. Awkward!

Be confident

If all else fails, just make sure you let your confidence shine through and give your best smile!
