She's here! Juliet and Ben introduce fans to the new addition to the family - Skylar...
GoodLuck group members Juliet 'Jules' Harding and Ben Peters are officially parents of a baby girl.
The birth announcement was shared on the band's official Instagram page. The couple have named their little princess, Skylar Scout Lulu Peters.
Their bundle of joy was born at 23h05 on her due date, 20 June 2024, and weighed 4.53kg.
"Her birth story was not the one we had planned or expected but it was the one that she needed... Skylar was trying to tell us something the whole week. Thank goodness we were listening," Jules said.
The 'I Feel Alive' hitmaker revealed in the lengthy post that they originally planned to have a home birth, but had to change their birth plan due to complications.
"Those of you who have followed our birth journey know how much I had prepared for a home birth. The concept of a calm, fear-free and empowered birth with a midwifery lead team was (and still is) the perfect idea of how I imagined giving birth. The more eyebrows I raised leading up to her birth the more determined I became to show everyone how safe and beautiful home birth is... because it truly is. Then sometimes things don't go according to plan. And our story, had it not been for the experience and wisdom of our midwife and birth team, could have been very, very different," she wrote.
Jules says she went into labour on Thursday afternoon. When her water broke, it was discovered that she had level 2 meconium.
According to KidsHealth, "Meconium is a newborn's first poop. This sticky, thick, dark green poop is made up of cells, protein, fats, and intestinal secretions, like bile. Babies typically pass meconium (mih-KOH-nee-em) in the first few hours and days after birth. But some babies pass meconium while still in the womb during late pregnancy."
If meconium gets into a baby's lungs, it can lead to a condition that is known as meconium aspiration syndrome. This can occur before, during or after labour and delivery.
"Babies who are stressed by low oxygen levels or infections also may pass meconium before birth. When meconium gets in the amniotic fluid, there's a chance a baby will breathe (aspirate) it into the lungs before, during, or after birth. But most babies with meconium in the amniotic fluid will not get MAS," KidsHealth states.
Jules says that after discussing her situation with health professionals, it was decided that she should go to the hospital.
"Our midwife came round to our home and after an examination and a consult with our Gynae over the phone, the decision was made to transfer to hospital. We had been monitoring a buildup of signs in the days before labour... from high glucose in my urine and blood, to the meconium and excess fluid around the baby. So when small contractions started, and I mean small! Our little one was already getting very stressed and dropping her heart rate."
Despite the scare, baby Skylar was born healthy and safely. Naturally, music was part of her arrival. Jules says a playlist of songs, compiled by dad Ben, could be heard during the delivery.

Scores of people sent messages of well wishes to Jules and Ben.
"What a sweet little baby! And super family! Well done guys! Hello little baby," media personality Elana Afrika commented.
Tamara Dey wrote: "Yay!!!!!! Thrilled. Congratulations my friends! Enjoy this special time x sending love."
Jules and Ben surprised their GoodLuck fans in February when they announced that they had been dating for the past 15 years and were expecting their first child together.
She revealed shortly before her daughter's birth that she wasn't sure that she would ever be a mother, but life clearly had other plans.
"I was so entirely consumed by my calling to be a songwriter and touring musician with a partner who had chosen the same path as me. How could we ever manage to raise a family and be on the road? How could we ever make time for life outside of music? How would we balance the demands of being independent artists and entrepreneurs and give enough time, intention and love to our child? We still dont have all the answers but it really doesn't matter anymore... Because YOU are nearly HERE and you have already shifted everything into pure perspective."
Congrats, Jules and Ben!
