Game of Thrones: Will Jaime die?

If Jaime dies at any point this season in Game of Thrones I am not sure how I will feel.

 

He seems to take pride in building me up and letting me down, yet somehow I still have hope that eventually at some point he will do the right thing.

 

In the latest instalment of his lifelong trouble with wishy-washy decisions, Jaime declined the be Tyrion's champion during his trial by combat. The set-up had all the ingredients of a redeeming story. The troubled incestuous kingslayer who was willing to sacrifices his job goes toe-to-toe with a mean and powerful mercenary to fight to save his brother's life. But no, he just decided to pass because he has one hand. What a flake. 

 

Also, I am not sure how I feel about Prince Oberyn volunteering himself for the fight. Sure he wants revenge on Sir Gregor for killing his sister Elia and her children, but is he willing to help a Lannister in the process? I very much doubt it. Oberyn is a skilled fighter (well, so he keeps saying) but he is also very brash and arrogant and I fear that that might lead to a downfall that will cost him his life and Tyrion's.

 

Meanwhile Lord Petyr Baelish continues to mesmerize with his deadly charm (literally). 

 

"Oh, my sweet wife.

My sweet, silly wife.

I have only loved one woman, only one, my entire life.

Your sister."

 

It's probably the maximum amount of poetry you can insert into a moment as cruel as killing your new bride. Equally impressive was Sansa Stark's reaction to the whole thing. For far too long, I've been disappointed by how much time she spends crying and not taking matters into her own hands. When Petyr killed her aunt I looked on in glee at her almost indifferent reaction. Its seems in Baelish's wise and cunning hands she is picking up some pointers on ruthlessness and lying and, yes, it suits her. And hopefully she can use that to try and find Arya who is still out there in the world wondering around with that awful man named The Hound.

 

Also celebrations (well, for me anyway) are in order. Daenerys and Daario Naharis finally being together is one of the things I had most looked forward too. Daenerys is a tough woman and she doesn't like to be told what to do and I am sure in Daario, as respectful as he is, she has found her match. He is a straight talker and I think it will do the Mother of Dragons a lot of good to have someone like that in her life.

 

Unfortunately this is not good news for Ser Jorah who has quickly put two and two together and warns Daenerys not to trust Daario because he betrayed and killed the other captains of the Second Sons. Daenerys tells Jorah that she has ordered Daario and his army to retake Yunkai, and kill all remaining masters there. Jorah tells her that, had Ned Stark taken the same approach toward him when he sold slaves, he would not be there to advise her. And of course she relents, but already the relationship between Daario and Daenerys is causing unease and I hope it doesn't derail Khaleesi's plans to take the iron throne. I love Daario (I mean, who wouldn't with that sword skill and witty sense of homour) but if I have to choose, Ser Jorah is my man. He is a great tactician and his counsel will prove useful in Westeros (If we ever get there). 

 

Next week is Tyrion's trial by combat and I got one thing to say about that: BRING ON THE BLOOD.
