Eish! Hugh Masekela still won't take pics with weave-wearing sisters
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Reality star Dineo Ranaka had to find a "blankie" to take a picture with Bra Hugh.
Acclaimed jazz musician Hugh Masekela is very outspoken about his dislike of fake hair.
Bra Hugh hates weaves, extensions, and chemically straightened hair so much that he even refuses to take pictures with women who are not all natural.
Not even celebrities are immune to his strict no-weave policy.
While most people might take offense, and not even bother trying to get a picture with the legend, TV personality Dineo Ranaka could not miss out on the opportunity.
She bumped into Hugh Masekela recently, and quickly wrapped a "blankie" around her head to cover up her fake hair.
"All I had in my possession was a blankie and I was very happy to wrap my hair in it for a photograph with him! It's a true story ladies - Bra Hugh (I prefer to call him Ntate Hugh but he insists on Bra Hugh) will not be photographed with any artificial or straightened hair!! Lol!" she captioned a picture with the star on Instagram.
Dineo added that she had no problem covering up.
"Most are offended by this, however I've learnt to not let the opinions or preferences of others kill my joy. Respecting each other's differences and being open to meet one another half way makes life and it's precious moments all the more pleasurable - I refuse to let ego rob me of a moment to smile and be merry! We laughed a lot in this moment - he's a lovely man!"
And if you have no idea why Bra Hugh is not a fan of weaves, he explained why during an interview with Sowetan in 2015.
"As someone who runs a foundation that seeks to restore culture and identity, I refused to take photos with people with weaves. And I tell them that myself."
