Diane Warren questions why there are 24 writers on one Beyoncé song

Beyoncé's new album, 'Renaissance', is making waves around the world. It has already broken several records and is climbing up the charts in many countries, including South Africa. 

Despite rave reviews from the 40-year-old's fans, the album has not been without controversy. 

The wrath of the Beyhive - as Queen B's fans are known, descended on songwriter Diane Warren after she made a comment about one of the songs. 

Diane - who has written songs for artists such as Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Cher - questioned why 24 writers were credited on 'Alien Superstar'. 

"How can there be 24 writers on a song?" she asked on Twitter.

Her tweet was immediately met with backlash. Some accused Diane of trying to devalue Beyoncé as an artist. 

"Even if she had 50 writers on one song, does that make her any less of an artist? Celine Dion never wrote a song in her life, do we constantly discredit her?" one Twitter user commented. 

Many Twitter users also pointed out that the credits on the song include credits for music samples used. 

"Folks say musicians have too many writers on their songs, but samples, quotes, references, and influences are important in all aspects of art. Collaboration is a skill that many can't flex. It's a white, capitalistic, patriarchal idea that brilliance solely happens in isolation," a Twitter user named Raquel Willis wrote. 

Diane says she meant no shade with her comment and was genuinely curious. 

"Ok, I meant no disrespect to @Beyonce, who I've worked with and admire. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding," she tweeted.

Diane wrote Beyoncé's 2011 song, 'I Was Here'. The 65-year-old has been writing hit singles for artists since the early 80s.

Speaking of songwriting, one of Beyoncé's songs has come under fire for a lyric featured on 'Heated' that uses a word considered derogatory in some parts of the world. 

While the word "sp*z" is used to describe a clumsy or something that is acting oddly in America, some in Europe use it to insult disabled people. 

"The word, not used intentionally in a harmful way, will be replaced," Beyoncé's team said in a statement.

Lizzo also had to remove the word from one of her songs recently for the same reason.
