Cancelled! 'Rhythm City' has been canned
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
The end of the road. Popular local drama, 'Rhythm City', is coming to an end in 2021.
Another one bites the dust - 'Rhythm City' is the latest long-running soapie to get cancelled.
We've already had to say goodbye to SABC's 'Isidingo' in 2020, and now e.tv's 'Rhythm City' has been given the boot after 13 years.
The channel announced the shocking news a few days ago. The news comes seven months after the show received the 'Best TV Soap' award at the 2020 SAFATAs.
'Rhythm City' also recorded a whopping 4,8-million viewers in April.
It looks like the cast is just as surprised as their fans by the cancellation.
A crew member told the City Press that they were taken aback by the news as the show had been doing very well.
"You don't can a successful show," the mole said.
The last episode of 'Rhythm City' will air in July 2021.
Viewers are less than impressed.
"Rhythm City being cancelled would be the biggest mistake. They move with the times, they support up and coming artists. They actually employ new talent. Their story line is not boring. No ways, they need to reconsider. It can’t be cancelled. Maybe advance it but not cancel," one man wrote on Twitter.
Another user added: "My heart is so sore to be losing such an authentic soapie in our screen. It launched so many talents and played local music without fail. I’m actually saddened by this ending. They really had a good run!! Asante to the entire team of #RhythmCity."
