Bryoni Govender begins her Miss Universe South Africa journey
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
An "excited" Bryoni Govender is heading off to the Miss Universe pageant soon.
Miss Universe South Africa Bryoni Govender is gearing up for one of the biggest moments of her beauty pageant career.
In just a few short weeks, Miss Universe will crown its next title holder. Govender will be representing reigning Miss SA, Natasha Joubert.
Natasha is unable to attend this year's pageant as she entered the competition in 2021. She was the second runner-up of Miss SA 2020 at the time.
Bryoni will soon be jetting off to El Salvador to take part in Miss Universe. More than 80 women from around the world are among the contestants.
"Today is @missuniverse farewell day!!! Yay!! To say I’m excited is a complete understatement! So happy to finally reveal to you what we have been cooking up in these last couple of months! Stay tuned to all our socials for live updates and thank you for being on this journey with me," Bryoni wrote on Instagram.
MORE ON EAST COAST RADIO:
Bryoni is the second South African of Indian descent to represent the country at Miss Universe.
The qualified lawyer, who is also an admitted attorney, also unveiled the campaign she will be promoting at the pageant. The 'Her Way Out' advocacy campaign was launched this week.
"She will be advocating for women’s rights and taking the baton on behalf of women everywhere to find their way out... To make her campaign as effective as possible, @bryoni.govender has teamed up with the Social Impact team at global law firm @nortonrosefulbright to focus on, amongst others, access to justice projects." Miss South Africa said.
Bryoni is also now an ambassador for Lawyers Against Abuse (LvA). According to the public benefit organisation's bio, LvA provides direct legal services and psychosocial support to victims of gender-based violence.
Check out the video for more details about her campaign.
Miss SA officials have also revealed that Willet Designs Couture will be creating Bryoni's looks for the pageant.
This exquisite gown was designed by the talented @willetdesignscouture and inspired by the Indian national bird the peacock. @willetdesignscouture also designed @bryoni.govender's preliminary and finale gown that she will rock on the @missuniverse stage."
The 72nd Miss Universe Pageant will take place on Saturday, November 18.
