A lawyer for Kevin Federline has revealed that there has been "some telephonic communication" between Britney Spears and her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

Sean and Jayden, who are 18 and 17 years old, respectively, have had an estranged relationship with their famous mom over the years.

Kevin was granted sole custody of the boys in 2008 after Britney suffered a mental breakdown that saw her being placed under a conservatorship, which lasted 13 years

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight (ET), attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan revealed that Britney and her sons have made small steps towards mending their relationship.

"The good thing is that the boys saw their mom was doing well and have a desire to speak with her. There has been some telephonic communication between Britney and her sons, and we think that is a step in the right direction."

Kevin's lawyer, however, says the reconciliation process will take a while.

"Reconciliations and the reunification of relationships are difficult and take time. They are sometimes complicated and always a lengthy process. The process has not really commenced, let alone [been] completed," he told ET.

MORE FROM EAST COAST RADIO:

Sean and Jayden's relationship with Britney has been up and down over the years, but things took a turn for the worse in recent years.

The teens did not attend Britney's 2022 wedding to Sam Asghari, nor did several of the '...Baby One More Time' singer's close family members.

Britney's mother, Lynne Spears, her father, Jamie Spears, and her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, were not invited to the wedding.  However, her sons chose not to attend due to their strained relationship.

"At the time it just wasn't a good time to go. I'm not saying that I'm not happy for her. I'm really happy for them, but she didn't invite the whole family, and then if it was just going to be me and Preston, I just don't see how that situation would have ended on good terms, "Jayden revealed in a 2022 interview with the Daily Mail and ITV.

He added that he still had hope for a reconciliation.

"I 100 percent think this can be fixed of course. It's just going to take a lot of time and effort... I really want to see her again."

Despite their estranged relationship, Britney continues to share sweet posts of her sons on her Instagram page.

She revealed in a post shared in December last year that her busy schedule as a singer prevented her from seeing her children as often as she would like, but she always made a plan to make up for it.

"I didn’t get to see my kids as much as I wanted so I would go to their school and have lunch with them! He just wanted me to hold him though!."

Britney also calls her sons her first loves.
