Britney Spears reveals she had an abortion while dating Justin Timberlake
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
The 'Stronger' singer writes in her new memoir that Justin "didn't want to be a father" at the time.
There are just a few days left before Britney Spears releases her highly anticipated memoir, 'The Woman In Me'.
The 41-year-old has been sharing excerpts from the book in the build-up to the October 24 launch day. The latest excerpt reveals that Britney was pregnant with Justin Timberlake's baby.
She writes that Justin did not want to keep the baby and asked her to get an abortion.
"It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated. But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young," People quoted an excerpt from the book.
Britney and Justin dated from 1999 to 2002. They were the music industry's most loved couple at the time.
Britney writes in her book that she never would have had an abortion but "Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father".
“To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life," she wrote, according to People.

Justin has yet to comment on Britney's remarks about their relationship. He did, however, publicly apologise to her in 2021 for the "times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem".
Justin made the apology after their relationship was mentioned in the 'Framing Britney Spears' documentary.
The singer also apologised to Janet Jackson, who took most of the blame for their 2004 “wardrobe malfunction” at the Super Bowl.
"I specifically want to apologise to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed," he wrote in a statement shared on his Instagram page.
