Back to school! Celebs share snaps of their children's first day
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
The 2021 school year has officially started for many learners, including the children of these A-list stars.
While government schools are expected to re-open later this month, scores of children have already had their first day of school for 2021.
Independent schools across the country opened their doors on Wednesday, with many more expected to start lessons next week.
Some of the stars whose little ones are back in class already include Elana Afrika and Kelly Khumalo.
Ntando Kunene
Miss South Africa 2016, Ntando Kunene, shared a cute snap of her son's first day at school. Oyinkosi, who will be turning two in February, was "pretty excited" about his first day.
"I cannot believe that we are here now. I must say; he was pretty excited to leave home but I could see the confusion when we dropped him off. I’m happy he did not cry; that would have broken my heart a little. How was your first-day moms, dads, aunties, uncles, guardians? I would love to know," Ntando wrote on Instagram.
Ntando's ex-husband, Khaya Mthethwa, made headlines in 2020 when he revealed they would be paying a small fortune for their son's school fees. The singer revealed it costs around R90,000 a year for pre-school these days!
Brenden and Mpoomy Ledwaba
Brenden and Mpoomy couldn't believe their daughter Nuri is already starting pre-school.
"It’s crazy How time flies," Brenden wrote. The former 'Idols SA' contestant and his wife Mpoomy were all smiles on Open Day.
"This was us on our way to school Open Day! We sang “the wheels of the bus” the whole way and missy flourished! Big sissy is starting school tomorrow and we are all excited (All COVID precautions in place)," Mpoomy wrote.
Elana Afrika
Elana managed to get a picture with both of her girls - masks and all!
"Family portrait. We can do hard things! #FirstDayBackAtSchool #DoingItForMyGirls," she captioned a picture with her daughters.
Kelly Khumalo
Kelly's daughter Thingo looked "gorgeous" in her school uniform. The singer seemed just as excited as Thingo for her first day back at school.
Kelly revealed last year that homeschooling her children during the lockdown was difficult and she had a new found respect for teachers.
"Being at home and homeschooling and not being able to work the way that I would want to has been really tough," she told the 'Expresso Show' in April.
