More political parties claim NFP vote ahead of crucial election

The party says the deal was struck with the NFP's KwaZulu-Natal chairman Vikizitha Mlotshwa.

Cope's KZN chairperson Kenneth Ntola explains how the agreement came about.

"We were approached by the provincial leadership of the NFP, among them Mr Mlotshwa, and we agreed the terms of the working relationship, he said.

Ntola says they are only doing this to help the NFP who have found themselves in a sticky situation after being disqualified from the elections for late registration payment.

"The Congress of the People has no problem with working with the National Freedom Party because what happened to them is something that could happen to anybody," Ntola added.

Mlotshwa has been unreachable this afternoon.

Meanwhile the IFP says the NFP leadership has no support base to offer the ANC.

It's been responding to the NFP's announcement earlier today that it will be voting with the ANC tomorrow.

In a statement, the IFP says it questions the legitimacy of the NFP’s claim, saying the rank and file members of that party have already re-joined the IFP.

Other NFP regions and structures in the province are said to be endorsing the DA.

The NFP were disqualified from tomorrow's municipal poll after failing to meet the IEC's June 2 payment deadline for registration.
