KwaDukuza, uMsunduzi, Nkandla and Underberg are amongst the ten municipalities that recorded the highest voter turnout in KZN for the past Local Government Elections.
The results were announced at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre in Durban yesterday. KZN registered the highest voter turnout at 61.4%, which is above the national average. IEC Operations Manager, Ntombifuthi Masinga, says the uMngeni Municipality, Impendle, Umfolozi, Umshwati, Umsinga and the new municipality that combines UMtshezi and Mbabazane also received a high voter turnout.
"The following municipalities are where we experienced low voter turnouts. So political parties can go back to the drawing board and assess how their campaigns went in those municipalities," she said.
"The municipalities are Umzimkhulu, Ulundi, Dannhauser , Emadlangeni, Newcastle, Uphongolo, Nquthu, Kwanongoma, Umzumbe, Abaqulusi and Kokstad," Masinga said.
"We did not do well in those areas," she said.
