Updated | By Christopher Motabogi
As IEC officials feverishly tally the millions of votes cast in yesterday's local government elections, early results show that the ANC is still ahead at the polls.
With approximately half the votes counted so far, latest figures show the ruling party is leading with 51.98% of the votes - nationally.
The DA is trailing behind with 30.26% - an improvement on their 2011 municipal results.
Meanwhile, the EFF have under-performed slightly, receiving just 6.97% of the current votes.
Provincial results for Kwazulu Natal are still being counted.
