As South Africa battles a fourth wave of Covid-19 infections, health officials say 181 more people have lost their lives.
The takes the number of known fatalities since the outbreak to 92 830. In the last 24 hour period, over 6 700 new infections were picked up, which represent a 15.5% positivity rate.
Almost 2 000 new cases were reported in the Western Cape while KZN's figures climbed by 1 200.
More than 300 people with coronavirus-related illnesses were admitted to hospital.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation says the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is dangerous and especially so for those who have not been vaccinated against the disease.
It says the global surge in cases is being driven by Omicron, which is more transmissible than the previously dominant Delta variant.
More than 15 million cases were reported to the organisation last week.
