SA Covid-19 cases double in one day

The number of new Covid-19 cases have doubled in the last 24 hours reporting cycle, leading up to Tuesday evening.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says there were 1 367 new Covid-19 cases.
This represents an increase of 8.6% in the daily positivity rate – up from Monday’s 3.8%.
An additional 201 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 87 417.
KwaZulu-Natal is leading with 372 new cases, followed by Western Cape with 241 new cases.
“The majority of new cases today are from KwaZulu-Natal (27%), followed by Western Cape (18%), Eastern Cape and Gauteng Province accounted for 14% each; Free State accounted for 12%; Northern Cape accounted for 5%; Mpumalanga and North West accounted for 4% each, and Limpopo accounted for 2% of today’s new cases,” said the NICD in a statement.
There has been an increase of 158 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, with 6 860 people currently admitted in both public and private health facilities.
On the vaccine front, 164 097 vaccines were administered on Tuesday.
