No glitches on day one of R350 grant payments - SASSA
Updated | By Eva Chipa
The South African Social Security Agency has begun making the first payments of the R350 social relief grants.
The first payments were made on Wednesday.
The grant was reinstated by President Cyril Ramaphosa in July as part of efforts to mitigate the economic impact of Covid-19 and the various lockdowns.
SASSA has received over 9 million applications nationally.
Spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi says the system is stable.

"SASSA is observing the situation closely. So far, we have picked that the system is very stable. We made payments yesterday without any hiccups and we will be increasing the numbers today to 250 000 payments. The intention is to make sure we move to 2.5 million by next week Tuesday.
"There were no glitches, however, we plead with those who did not give us their account details that they must not go the post office to enquire until they get a SMS from SASSA that the payment has been made."
The last three digits of approved beneficiaries' identity numbers will be used for payment collection on a specific day of the week and a person will receive an SMS from SASSA notifying them that the grant is available for collection.
