KwaZulu-Natal remains new epicentre for Covid-19

KwaZulu-Natal remains the province showing the most daily new Covid-19 cases in South Africa and reported another 2 542 new infections in the 24 hours leading up to Monday evening.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reports that 7 632 new Covid-19 cases were identified in South Africa over the last 24 hours period.
This represents a 20.2% positivity rate.
The new cases push the country’s total number of laboratory-confirmed cases since March 2020 to 2 698 605.
KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 33% of the total cases, followed by Western Cape with 21%, the Eastern Cape accounted for 17% and Gauteng Province accounted for 7%.

The Free State, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, the North West and Limpopo accounted for below 10% each of the latest new cases.
A further 163 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 79 584.
Furthermore, there has been an increase of 345 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
There are currently 13 537 people admitted in both public and private hospitals for Covid-19 treatment.
On the vaccine front, a total of 247 293 Covid-19 vaccines were administered on Monday.
