KwaZulu-Natal accounts for 31% of new Covid-19 cases

KwaZulu-Natal continues to record the highest number of new daily Covid-19 cases with 3 369 infections reported in the last 24 hours.
The province accounts for 31% of the country’s total cases, followed by Western Cape with 22%.
The Eastern Cape accounts for 16%, followed by Gauteng with 10% of the cases reported on Sunday.
Mpumalanga, the Free State, the Northern Cape, the North West and Limpopo made up less than 10% of the country’s total infections.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reports that there were 10 748 new Covid-19 cases in the latest 24-hour period.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, South Africa now has a total of 2 690 973 laboratory-confirmed cases.
The NICD says the increase represents a 20.7% positivity rate.
A further 170 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 79 421.
There has been an increase of 219 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, with 13 510 people currently admitted in both the public and public health facilities.
