300 more Covid-19 deaths in SA

An additional 300 people succumbed to Covid-19 related illnesses on Tuesday, taking the total fatalities in South Africa to 85 302.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says 3 699 new Covid-19 infections have been identified in the country in the reporting cycle to Tuesday.
This brings the total Covid-19 cases to 2 864 534.
The institute says the latest increase represents an 8.4% positivity rate.
The country maintained a downward trend for five consecutive days.
KwaZulu-Natal is still the epicentre with 932 new infections, followed by the Eastern Cape and Western Cape provinces which recorded 663 new cases each.
Limpopo only recorded 48 new infections.
There has been an increase of 323 hospital admissions over the past 24-hours, a 160 increase from Monday’s hospital admissions.
Nine thousand nine hundred and forty-seven people are currently receiving treatment at both private and public facilities.
On the vaccine front, South Africa surpassed the 15 million Covid-19 vaccinations mark as of Tuesday.
Two hundred forty-eight thousand two hundred and thirty-six vaccines were administered in 24 hours.
Gauteng took the lead and administered 66 643 jabs.
