A worker has been mauled to death by a lion in the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park in northern KZN.
Ezemvelo's Musa Mntambo says the 45-year-old water attendant man had been going about his daily duties this morning when the lioness pounced on him.
The animal had been about four metres away at the time.
Mntambo has explained that the animal had not been well and has since been put down.
"Our counsellors have gone to the family now to inform them. As Ezemvelo, we will assist the family throughout [with ] the funeral arrangements and the funeral. The CEO of Ezemvelo has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the deceased's family," he said.
Mntambo says the staff member had worked at the park for 16 years.
