Wits University to run poll to determine whether or not to resume lectures
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Wits University says it will be running a poll at the institution later this week, to find out what the majority of the students and staff want as a way forward.

The institution says it has been receiving communication from various people calling for the academic programme to resume.
All activities at the institution were suspended indefinitely following student protests last week over the fees issues.

Wits says it wants to see how many people want activities to resume next week Monday, if the appropriate security measures are in place.
The institution's Shirona Patel says all responses will be anonymous.
"The poll will be open to Wits students, and Wits staff - only. We are requesting the Independent Electoral Commission to oversee the process, and to verify the results independently. We don't have confirmation from them yet on this front. If the majority of students and staff support the reopening on Monday, the University will call on government and the police to meet the obligations to protect the university's property," she said.
