Umzimkhulu pupils ready for careers expo
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Youth in the Umzimkhulu area south of KwaZulu-Natal have arrived at Umkhatshane Junior Secondary School for a careers expo.
The area is amongst the most rural in the province with many youth unemployed.
About 800 learners from this and surrounding schools braved the chilly morning for the expo.
Some have walked a few kilometres while buses and taxis are also transporting others.
While a careers expo is common in the city and metros, the concept is not as prevalent in such rural areas.
Young people, both current and past pupils will be addressed by various industry leaders on the possible careers opened to them once they complete high school.
Amongst those to address learners are representatives from higher institutions of learning, educators, career councillors and some university students.
The expo is expected to go well into the afternoon and it's hoped that at the end of it young people will be better equipped to make the right career choices for them.
