'Uber must obey the law': Durban metered taxi drivers
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Metered taxi drivers in KZN are marching to Durban's City Hall today in opposition to Uber.
They've accused the online taxi hailing service of operating in the country illegally, saying they do not pay taxes like other operators have to.
With the hashtag Uber Must Fall, over 100 metered taxi drivers are marching through the Durban City Centre.
The march started from the Durban Christian Centre and will proceed through Pixley KaSeme Street headed for City Hall where a memorandum of demands will be handed over.
The marchers say "If we have to obey the law, so must illegal Uber".
Organisers have urged all participants to march peacefully, adding that anyone who is violent will be handed over to the police.
The group is being escorted by SAPS and metro police.
