Two people including a pregnant woman have been killed in a head-on collision on the R617 in Pietermaritzburg.
Paramedics arrived on the scene this morning to find two wrecked cars lying in the middle of the road.
ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring says on assessment of the drivers of both vehicles they found that they'd already succumbed to their injuries.
He says another passenger was found to be in a serious condition and taken to hospital for treatment.
''ER24 paramedics along EMRS provided the patient with advanced life support intervention. Once treated, she was to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
"The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene to begin an the investigation,'' he said.
Meanwhile, a pedestrian has lost her life on Fields Hill in Durban when she was knocked over by a car.
Netcare 911's Chris Botha says she'd tried to run across the road when she was struck.
''The paramedics and police services had to close off the road for quite some time for further investigations to take place,'' he said.
