Updated | By Portia Cele
Prominent South Africans and organisations worldwide have taken to social media to share messages of remembrance of former statesman, Nelson Mandela. See some of the heartfelt messages shared online below.
The South African hero died in 2013 at the age of 95.
Ceremonies were held countrywide to remember the former president including, a Heroes Marathon that took place from Mthatha Airport to the Nelson Mandela Museum after a gathering in his hometown, Qunu in the Eastern Cape.
An evening prayer service was held in Cape Town's St Georges Cathedral where Anglican Archbishop Thabo Makgoba questioned what Madiba would think of South Africa today.
Meanwhile during Prince Harry's final phase of his SA tour, the British royal delivered an address at the Nelson Mandela Foundation marking the second year since Madiba’s passing - praising the work that has been done in South Africa in continuing his legacy.
“It is not for me to try put into words the impact that President Mandela had on South Africa, or a generation across the globe. I was fortunate enough to have met Madiba a number of years ago, and I have treasured that memory ever since,” he said.
