Probe after officers shot on the North Coast
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Police have confirmed a case of murder and that of attempted murder have been opened at the Gingindlovu Police Station after a policeman was shot dead and another wounded this morning.
Spokesperson Thulani Zwane says the two officers were patrolling the Gingindlovu area near eShowe in northern KZN when they received information of a suspicious looking vehicle parked on the side of the road.
When the officers approached the vehicle shots were fired at them from the car.
Zwane says no arrests have been made so far and that the Hawks are taking over the investigation.
''A warrant officer who was 51-years-old was shot and killed, whereas his colleague, a 37-years-old was seriously wounded and taken to hospital for treatment.
''The suspects fled the scene using their own vehicle, a white Toyota Auris,'' he said.
This is the third shooting incident involving KZN police in as many days. A warrant officer was shot and killed on Saturday while approaching a group of suspected robbers in Empangeni.
Another officer was shot and wounded by suspects while on a routine patrol in KwaMashu yesterday.
