One week since Lily Mine collapse, three workers remain trapped
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Today marks exactly a week since the collapse at Lily Mine in Mpumalanga. Three workers have been trapped underground in a container that had been used as on office.
Vantage Goldfields CEO Mike McChesney says they are getting closer to the container.
"We are very close to recovering the container. Without getting your hopes up too much, you must understand it's an extremely dangerous and difficult operation.
"Dangerous in that hang ups underground, the situation has changed quite a lot and that necessitate slowing down of the removal of the rock on an underground basis," he said.
Below, mine manager Mike Begg speaks about progress on rescue efforts.
