Mixed reaction over EThekwini's clean audit
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The eThekwini Municipality’s clean audit by the Auditor-General has been met with mixed reaction at the city’s last full council meeting at the Durban ICC.
Deputy Mayor Nomvuzo Shabalala made the announcement, which was received with applause.
But soon after the DA’s Peter Davies said it was strange that the city got a clean audit, while it still has issues of irregular expenditure.
Davies was referring to the city’s Audit Committee’s quarterly report from March to June this year, which was being tabled by Shabalala.
''The housing budget is still merely subsidising to such an extent that is unsustainable and we still have not got our money back as the province, somehow the Auditor-General actually looked past all these things and said that we have a clean audit - I do not know how,'' he said.
