Melmoth triple murder suspects in court today
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Four people are scheduled to appear in the Melmoth Magistrate's Court today - in connection with last week's brutal attack on a family in the Zululiyaduma area, in northern Kwazulu-Natal.
The suspects face charges of murder and attempted murder.
A 49-year-old woman, her 23-year-old son and her 27-year-old pregnant daughter were brutally attacked with a bush knife, and fatally shot.
A 30-year-old who survived the ordeal is in a critical condition in hospital.
The police's Thulani Zwane says the suspects were arrested on Friday. He expects more arrests to be made this week.
"It is understood that the family members were in their house at Melmoth area last week, when they were attacked by armed suspects. Through investigations the members managed to arrest the suspects aged between 16 and 21. The motive for the killing of these people is still unknown at this stage."
Meanwhile, KZN police are appealing for help to identify the mutilated body of a woman found in Edith Benson Crescent - near the Durban Botanical Gardens, recently.
Zwane says they have not been able to find any friends or relatives of the woman.
"There is no arrest made at this stage, and we are also appealing to anyone who might have information of what really happened to please come forward and give the information."
Berea SAPS are investigating a case of murder.
