The Mayor of the Mandeni Municipality has condemned the destruction of property by protesting residents of the north coast town.
Factories, vehicles and containers have been set alight in the town centre after about 3000 protesters took to the streets late last night.
Around 50 people were arrested in the violent protests over the appointment of an Induna and the selection of candidates as ward councillors for the upcoming Local Government Elections.
